When the doctor said this he didn't give me much hope.

Especially as he seemed much more optimistic when I had spoken to him before, when I wasn't in the gurney prepping for surgery.

Maybe the doctor was just depressed, or sad, or having a bad day.

I could see it in his eyes. He had sad eyes.

I mean, we'll do our best, the doctor said.

But, you know, sometimes you just don't know these things.
